Advanced Humidity Control Strategies

Description
Course Description:
AIA = 1.5 HSW LU, GBCI = Self report

Humidity affects buildings in many ways throughout a structure’s life cycle. It can influence energy use, occupant health and comfort and long-term durability. As buildings shift to tighter ventilation systems and more varied uses, humidity control becomes more important. This seminar will share real-world examples of how humidity impacts buildings. Speakers will also cover current and emerging technologies and strategies for monitoring, controlling and remediating humidity problems.

Speakers:
• Dr. Eva King, Founder and Principal Scientist, AURA EnviroScience
• Ken Nelson, Owner, Residential Ventilation

Continuing Education Credits:
• AEGB staff will report your 1.5 AIA Learning Units (HSW/LUs).
• Self report your GBCI (CEUs).
• Find your certificates in the “My Certificates” under the profile menu.
• Email the certificate to your AEGB representative if you are taking this course for a rating measure.
• Email greenbuilding@austinenergy.com if you need assistance.

Learning Objectives:
• Identify how humidity affects building materials, energy use and indoor air quality.
• Explain common risks of poor humidity control, including mold, material damage and reduced system performance.
• Describe strategies for monitoring, controlling and reducing humidity in hot-humid climates.
• Recognize how design choices, ventilation practices and maintenance help protect the building envelope.
• Compare emerging humidity control technologies and understand how they support healthier, safer and more durable buildings.
